The largest cause of natural death in the US is sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), an unexpected loss of heart function. On average 435,000 people die from SCA every year in the United States. Over 38,000 of those deaths occur in New York State. Some symptoms can be mistaken for less serious ailments such as stress or fatigue, but can rapidly intensify causing severe chest pain and heart failure. When Sudden Cardiac Arrest occurs, seconds count and immediately available lifesaving technology is crucial. Easy-to-access, reliable equipment, training which assures responders are prepared and signage to indicate the locations of your life-saving AED is crucial to providing life saving success.

New York State is very pro-active in its approach to survival. Currently AEDs are mandated in all NY state offices, all primary and secondary state schools must be equipped with AED equipment on site in case of an emergency. Health Clubs with memberships of 500 and 250 (New York City) are required to have an AED and trained responders available. Legislation requires AEDs in arenas, public gathering places, golf courses, and certain assisted living and nursing facilities throughout New York State. Early response AED/CPR training techniques and Cardiac Science Powerheart AED and Heartsine Samaritan AED equipment in locations and available for rescue, help save lives. The American Heart Association predicts that 20,000 to 100,000 lives could be saved every year if an AED were available each time a victim suffers and arrest.
